Hi Product Hunt, 👋 I'm Ohlulu, maker of Sotto.

Why I made Sotto

While renting winter clothing and ski gear in Canada, I kept having to look up and convert measurements because the units were different from the ones I use in Taiwan.

Around the same time, my girlfriend, who was working at a jewelry store, told me how often people came in to buy a ring without knowing their partner's ring size.

It made me realize that caring about someone often lives in details that are easy to forget:

  • their shoe or ring size

  • a favorite flower

  • an allergy

  • something they once told you

So I made Sotto, a private notebook centered on people.

Each person gets a private page for practical details, favorite things, important dates, relationships, and notes. Sotto includes 100+ built-in fields, with Custom fields for everything that does not fit neatly into a template.

From remembering to discovering

Sotto began as a way to remember what you already know about someone. But remembering is only half of knowing a person. Caring also means staying curious.

That idea became Pick a Question.

It includes 300+ curated prompts across 17 categories, ranging from easy icebreakers to family, values, conflict, intimacy, money, and the future.

A few examples:

  • “So far, what's your favourite thing we do together?”

  • “When you're angry, do you say it straight, or use silence and cold?”

  • “What's the line your family said to you most as a kid?”

Pick one from someone's page, ask it in real life, and save their answer as a note. More sensitive prompts are clearly marked and include guidance for starting the conversation with care.

Sotto helps you remember what you already know about someone while giving you a reason to discover something new.

If you could ask someone you love one question tonight, what would it be?

Sotto is an exciting idea — wishing the makers a brilliant launch day! 🚀🚀

thank you so much — really appreciate the good wishes for launch day! 🚀

Took a few minutes to try it and the "pick a question" prompts really do work better than my usual awkward "so what do you do" opener, saved one to my brother's page already.

Thanks for giving it a try, and for saving one to your brother’s page. That’s exactly how I hoped Pick a Question would be used. Really glad it helped replace the usual small talk. 🎉

Tried it for a weekend with my closest friends and the Pick a Question feature actually made conversations feel less awkward. The on-device storage with biometrics is reassuring since this stuff is way too personal for a cloud service.

thank you so much for trying Sotto with your friends — it makes me really happy to hear Pick a Question helped make those conversations feel more natural, and I’m glad the privacy model feels right for something this personal.

The Pick a Question feature genuinely changed how I catch up with old friends — I never have to scramble for what to say. Really like that everything stays local unless I choose otherwise.

the "remember people, don't manage them" framing is a small swap but changes everything tbh. the ring size story hit home lol, Ive 100% been that person guessing in a store then feeling guilty after. and the "pick a question" thing?? love it so much!! congrats on the launch keeping this on my radar.

this means a lot — thank you for taking the time to write it and for keeping Sotto on your radar. I really appreciate it.

Love the privacy-first approach and the curated prompts idea. One thing that would make this a daily habit for me: a gentle reminder feature that surfaces someone you haven't reached out to in a while, maybe pulling from the dates and notes you've saved, so the notebook actually nudges you toward those small check-ins instead of just sitting there.

this is super thoughtful feedback, thank you — a gentle “it’s time to check in with someone” nudge built from your own notes is very much in line with where I’d love to take Sotto next.
