Soft Blackout - Mask text on any page, or turn articles into blackout poetry

by•
Soft Blackout masks text on any web page three ways, right from Chrome's toolbar. Manual masks any text you select in one click. Poetry turns an article into a blackout poem: you pick the words to keep and it hides the rest. Pattern Mask finds emails, URLs and phone numbers and masks them only when you choose Apply. Choose Solid or Marker style in five colours, with Undo and Redo across every mode. Masks are only visual and disappear on reload.

Hey everyone 👋 Blackout poetry has always fascinated me: you take a page of text, cover almost everything, and the few words left behind say something new. One day I wondered what that would feel like on the web, on any article I was reading. That's how Soft Blackout started. While building it, I kept reaching for the same idea for everyday things: hiding an email before a screenshot, covering a name before sharing my screen, or just blocking out a spoiler. So it grew into three modes: Poetry for making blackout poems, Manual for masking anything you select, and Pattern Mask for finding emails, URLs and phone numbers in one scan. I'm really curious how you'll use it, for privacy, for poetry or for something I haven't thought of. Drop a blackout poem in the comments if you make one, I'd love to see them!
