Skim v1.0.11 β€” "Folders, at last" πŸ“‚

byβ€’

The one where mail can finally go somewhere. Skim has happily read your folders since forever, but putting a message into one? Not supported. Slightly awkward for an email client. Fixed. πŸŽ‰

✨ New

  • Move to folder β€” new toolbar button, or V / Ctrl+K for a palette-style picker. Type, hit Enter, done. πŸš€

  • Create a folder while moving β€” no folder named "Taxes" yet? Type it, it gets created and the mail lands in it. Works offline too, because of course the move rides the op queue like everything else. And no, Enter won't accidentally invent a folder while a real match is sitting right there β€” that row never steals the highlight. 🧠

  • Rename & delete your own folders β€” a small button next to the list header. Your folders only; Skim won't let you rename Gmail's Inbox, because that ends badly.

  • Deleting is only offered on empty folders β€” IMAP DELETE takes everything inside with it on basically every provider except Gmail, and there's no undo. So we re-ask the server right before running it, in case mail snuck in between your click and the queue draining. Paranoid? Yes. Correct? Also yes. πŸ›‘οΈ

πŸ› Fixed

  • "Couldn't load this message" β†’ then Retry works β€” the classic. The body-fetch connection sits idle between two opened emails, the server quietly hangs up, and you find out by clicking. Skim now reconnects itself and retries silently, so you never see the error you were about to fix by pressing a button. ⚑

  • Reading pane no longer latches a stale error β€” a slow answer arriving after you switched threads used to land in the wrong place and just… stay there, forever, never retrying. Both of those are now guarded.

  • Deleted Items and friends β€” folder names with spaces produced a malformed IMAP command on the COPY fallback path. Quoted properly now.

  • Folders no longer clone themselves in the sidebar after you create one (turns out you have to speak modified UTF-7 back to the server, not just read it).

  • Nested names like Work/Taxes now use the server's own hierarchy separator instead of whatever we felt like.

  • Moving mail to the folder it's already in no longer makes it vanish until the next full resync. πŸͺ„

🧹 Housekeeping

  • Both body-fetch failure branches are now actually logged β€” previously they went nowhere at all, which made "it didn't load" a fun mystery.

  • Error causes ride along in the tooltip, so the next bug report is diagnosable. Visible wording unchanged, don't worry.

  • One new migration (0010) to persist the server's delimiter. Runs itself, nothing to do.
