I created ShiftLingo because, as a linguist and polyglot, I’ve always found one part of language learning particularly overlooked: writing. When you write, you have time to think. You can try a phrase, find a better way to say something, and remember new words and expressions without the pressure of having to answer immediately. When speaking, you don’t have that time. You have to react, and it’s easy to fall back on the same phrases or expressions that you’re used to, even when they’re not quite right. I also noticed that most language-learning products focus on either vocabulary, grammar, or speaking with an AI tutor. I wanted to approach it differently: put people into situations they might actually find themselves in and let them practice by writing. That’s how ShiftLingo started. And it’s been great to see early users tell us that the conversations feel relevant to situations they actually face, and that the suggestions help them discover new vocabulary and better ways to express themselves. If you’re learning a language, what’s one situation you wish you could practice before actually having to deal with it? :)
