What advantages would you say you have over MailPlane? I see having drive documents, anything else?
Tobyn Sowden
@robgranholm The foundation is the same: solving the problem of switching between multiple accounts. We have added the ability to shift between Mail, Drive, and Calendar. We've designed the user experience in a way that we think makes sense (accounts down the left, views on the upper right). We'll continue shipping features in Q1, hopefully to continue to differentiate Shift.

Really cool! However you should fix you contact form.. you are using my mail address as From: which means in does not get delivered because I use DMARC..

@emilstahl Thanks for the heads up and glad you like Shift! We found the error you mentioned and we are deploying a solution now. You can also reach out to us at hello@tryshift.com at any time.

Hey guys, been trying out Free version and loving it so far. One question, though: Why didn't you make this cloud-based or develop an extension for Chrome or Firefox or such? My start-up, DesignBold, is looking for opportunities to grow, too! Let's connect on Twitter and talk more about how we can help each other out!
Tobyn Sowden
@hung_dinh Hi Hung! Thanks for checking out Shift :D We didn't explore any sort of "cloud-based" or extension powered solutions because we were unsure of the the technical feasibility. There are extensions that allow you to dedicate tabs to unique sessions (allowing tabs to be for certain Google accounts). However, I don't think we could have multiple accounts and views represented in a single tab - this likely breaks Chrome's session paradigm. If you'd like to chat strategic, then please shoot me an email (tobyn.sowden@rdbrck.com) and let's setup a call.

@tobyns hi Tobyn, sure - I will email you shortly! By the way, do you guys think about having some sort of service inside Shift like Rapportive? I was enjoying Rapportive very much since they let me know who I was talking to. I would love to have the same convenience when moving to Shift.

This is so so handful for productivity! but thanks to Chrome/Chromium it's a RAM eater.
Tobyn Sowden
@hamednz Thanks for trying Shift ;) Shift is built on Electron, which is based on Chromium. We're hopeful that as the Electron project continues to move forward and mature, we'll see some optimizations around ram usage and performance.

No I don't want a coupon ;) But I see this message about the Chrome-version no longer being supported and asking me to upgrade. There's no new Shift-version next. Will there be some form of auto-update in the feature that tackles this before the message appears?
Nadia Tatlow
@funtakestime Hello there! We built Shift on a platform called Electron, which uses Chrome for its rendering engine. This bug recently appeared in their framework and we are working on an auto-update that will fix it very soon! For now, you can dismiss the message and it will not cause any problems.

@nadia_tatlow Thx for the info, glad to see see the bug was squashed: haven't seen the message again after the frequent updates lately. Nice work, thanks!

To be honest, I don't get excited about email clients. I don't even like email, truth be told, but I like email a whole lot more than I like talking on the phone. I have multiple Gmail accounts for my various websites. Having to use Gmail in a web browser is painful, sloppy, and cumbersome. What I like most about Shift is the ability to just hide the window when I don't want email in my face, but I can easily switch to it when needed.

Switching between accounts is super easy and nicely organized (tabs). As far as the Gmail UI, once you are in the mail client it is identical. My guess is that Shift is built using the Node-Webkit framework so it is technically just a web browser with some nice bells and whistles in an enclosed environment. But that is not only fine, it's perfect. Why reinvent the wheel?

Shift is basically a much better UX wrapper for Gmail than Google currently makes available. It is such a simple idea but it is excellently implemented.

After using the free version for a bit I upgraded to Pro to help support quality work and for a few extra benefits & features.

Money well spent, IMHO.

Pros:

Shift is so much more user-friendly than Gmail out-of-the-box. I have multiple email accounts and Shift makes it easy to manage them all.

Cons:

A few bugs here-and-there but nothing major.

Lindsey Allard

They have already integrated with all the apps I use.

Pros:

I have 5 emails that I regularly check and used to spend so much time switching between accounts. Other alternatives are slow.

Cons:

I would love to see a combined calendar. I am still switching between the different calendars in the shift app.

Interesting, I've used Gmail for years as my preferred email of choice and recently started using docs to share blogs and spreadsheets with colleagues and It is kind of a pain to switch all the time. I will definitely check this out. Can anyone tell me if there is integration for Yahoo mail?
Jaeyou Park
@al_wallace Hi Al, Yahoo mail integration can be accessed as an App on the Shift Advanced tier.
Mauro Pillegi
For me it is impractical, there are many permissions to be granted.
VLAD Cotfas
@mauropillegi The same... Weird permissions... Too bad...
VLAD Cotfas
@mauropillegi Exactly!!! How other apps do that without the permission? Simple they are a simple electron lightweight browser, so the private info/emails does not go through they server! THIS IS HUGE BREACH! Too good I figured out this..
Sahin Boydas
this is cool, but a free browser plugin is way more important because we have many small cute extensions and crm tools in my 3 gmail accounts :)
Nadia Tatlow
@sahinboydas 😎 Thanks! We are working hard to get support for these out early in the New Year. Stay tuned!
