Shark - Better Finder - A native Mac file manager for people who live in folders

Shark brings dual split panes, infinite tabs, an embedded terminal drawer, and instant hover previews into a familiar macOS interface. Built 100% natively in Swift & SwiftUI with zero Electron bloat, Shark helps developers, designers, and power users navigate deep nested folders, compare directories side-by-side, and preview files without losing their flow.

Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I’m Andrew, the creator of Shark.

Like many of you, I spend hours inside nested directories every day. macOS Finder is iconic, but the moment you need to compare two project directories, drag assets between branches, or jump straight into a shell, you find yourself fighting multiple windows and losing your flow.

Existing third-party file managers either feel like Windows 95 ports, rely on heavy Electron wrappers, or cost $40+ with bloated feature sets.

I wanted something that feels like Apple designed it for power users:

⚡ 100% Native: Built with Swift, AppKit, and SwiftUI. Starts instantly, sips battery, and uses minimal RAM.

📂 Dual Panes & Tabs: Split the window with F3, drag files between panes, and pin the tabs you use daily.

💻 Embedded Terminal: Press F4 and a terminal drawer slides open, already cd’d into whatever folder you’re browsing.

👁️ Hover Previews: Peek at code, images, audio, and documents without pressing spacebar or opening another app.

🌳 Cascading Subfolder Menus: Traverse nested folder trees at the speed of thought.

⌨️ Keyboard-First: ⌘K command palette, quick path jumper (⌘L), and intuitive shortcuts for everything.

Shark is available today on GitHub and the Mac App Store.

I’d love to hear your feedback: What’s your biggest frustration with Finder, and what feature should we build next?

Thank you for checking out Shark! 🦈
