Would you upload a private document to a free file converter?

I’ve noticed that most people choose an online file converter based on speed and convenience, but they rarely know what happens to their files after selecting them.

This becomes especially important when someone is converting:

• A résumé containing personal information

• A bank or tax document

• A school assignment

• A business contract

• Medical or insurance paperwork

Some conversion tools process files inside the browser, while others upload them to a server. The problem is that this difference is not always explained clearly before the user selects a file.

I’m building File Converts, a collection of PDF, document, image, audio, and video conversion tools. Most supported tools process files directly in the browser, while any tool requiring server processing should be clearly identified.

2. Which documents would you never upload?

3. Would a clear “Browser Processing” or “Secure Server Processing” label increase your trust?
