We built a tool to catch AI brand confusion — then found our own brand was the victim
We run an AI-visibility monitoring tool, so we scan brands across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and others. Last week we ran our own brand through it — and caught something uncomfortable.
Search "brandscope ai": Google shows us #1 organic. But Google's AI Overview describes a different company with a similar name (wowai.ch). And there's a direct competitor using nearly our exact domain (brandscopeai.com). Three companies, two named BrandScope, all competing for one AI identity.
This isn't an edge case — name collisions are the #1 thing we see when brands run their first scan. Powsight gets confused with PowerSight. A brand with a common name finds AI quoting the other company's site. "Mentioned by AI" and "correctly represented by AI" are different problems.
We now split every report into three buckets — not mentioned / mentioned-but-wrong-entity / mentioned-without-verifiable-source — each with its own next step.
Curious if others have hit this: has AI ever misattributed your brand to a different company? How did you handle it? Would genuinely love to hear how common this is outside our own data.
