Launching a self-hosted, one-time-license product on PH: what should makers expect?
by•
Most launches here are SaaS with a free trial and a monthly plan. We're preparing to launch ClientOS, a self-hosted client portal for agencies that you buy once and run on your own server, and it made me wonder how PH treats that model.
For makers who've launched self-hosted, open-core, or pay-once products:
Did the lack of an instant "sign up and try it" flow hurt your launch-day conversions? What did you offer instead (demo, video, sandbox)?
How did you explain setup without scaring off non-technical hunters?
Did the "no subscription" angle resonate, or did people mostly ask about updates and support?
I'd love to hear what worked and what you'd do differently. Happy to share what we learn after our launch too.

I'm curious about this topic also.
I'd let visitors complete one client task in a hosted demo before asking them to install anything. Keep a separate install guide with the server requirements, and state exactly what the one-time price includes for updates and support.
