Interested in my new prototype called ShadowPlan?
Hi Community!
I built a free educational prototype called ShadowPlan and I’m looking for early feedback.
The idea is simple: if someone pays a financial advisor based on assets under management, what would it look like to keep part of the portfolio advisor-managed while maintaining a self-directed “shadow” portion that follows the advisor’s allocation changes?
ShadowPlan helps users:
Estimate potential advisory-fee savings
Create a managed vs. shadow portfolio split
Save the initial allocation
Enter later advisor allocation changes
Calculate the matching shadow portfolio update
Save the updated baseline for the next advisor change
It is not financial advice, tax advice, or a trading recommendation tool. It is an educational planning simulator to help people understand the math and workflow.

Short demo:
I’d appreciate feedback on:
Is the concept clear?
Where does the workflow feel confusing?
Would a CSV/statement import make this more useful?
What would make you trust or not trust a tool like this?
Thank you very much everyone! Chris

Nice work on ShadowPlan, Chris! The idea of a “shadow” portfolio to visualize fee savings is really clever. I especially like the live demo … makes the concept easy to grasp. If you ever need a way to turn the learning experience into flashcards or spaced...repetition study material, I’m launching The Sponge soon on PH – would love a follow (see PRODUCT HUNT LAUNCH in my profile).
@rianbrob Thanks for the positive feedback. I'm on the lookout for users who are willing to try my solution out so I can see if this is something the market wants or not. Appreciate you taking the time to read my pitch. C
