I need your advice on the first MAJOR side project I'm trying to build (hs junior).

by

Two months ago, I joined Product Hunt and introduced myself as "a delusional 16-year-old who wants to build a tech product in the future." I found my interest in tech and entrepreneurship, and the fact that I can be as creative as I want to solve a problem that we face in our lives was inspiring.

As a high school junior, balancing schoolwork and other work was challenging. And for me, a big issue was staying productive. I failed to build healthy habits or build discipline, and that deterred me from starting side projects that I promised to start two months ago.

Despite the plethora of productivity tools and apps available for me to download, because of the fact that I lacked habits, I barely used them.

So... my first project (which I'm doing with a friend), I am planning to combine Edtech and Productivity in some way. I was thinking about building an app that can serve as THE starting point to develop healthy habits that allow people to be productive, have more free time by completing their work or tasks, and be content with their lives (since I have lots of regrets about not completing the tasks and etc.). I want to approach solving this problem through a three-step process: learn, implement, and sustain.

  • For learn, it's basically the app that teaches a particular skill or technique that helps people build positive habits (2-minute rule, etc.). Maybe I will refer to a YT video, article, or even a book.

  • For implementation, it's kinda like a task where people have to implement the skills that they learn.

  • For sustainability, it's like a challenge where they have to practice that particular skill for multiple days, leading to habits.

It's essentially Duolingo, but for developing healthy habits.

Some of my concerns are:

  • The curriculum itself. I may do a lot of research with other people to build one, but I'm not really sure about that.

  • Debating if I should add a gamification feature or AI, but I feel like that's gonna complicate things.

  • I'm planning to learn more coding as I build.

Do you guys have any feedback or advice? I will really appreciate them since it's a room for improvement for my project.

Thank you!

Hi Ryan,
Your idea seems interesting to me. I believe before you actually building the product, you can onboard a few actual students facing this pain and start building small products first. You don't need to learn coding much, you can just vibe code and make something basic first and check how many people are using it.
I am a founder myself and building in an adjecent space. Would love to connect and discuss more.
