I need nutrition experts to check one specific GenieChef feature

by

I posted GenieChef here about three months ago. This time, I'm not looking for general feedback on the app as I already received positive messages from users and even posted them on my landing page. I want to focus on one specific feature I recently made public: Balanced Plate.

GenieChef is primarily designed to solve a simple problem:

“I have some ingredients, but I have no idea what to cook.”

It doesn't try to provide rigid recipes, precise portions, or a nutrition plan. Instead, it gives people a starting idea and a general framework, which they can then adapt however they want. I recently added Balanced Plate and tried to translate the visual concept of a balanced plate into the way GenieChef generates a dish:

50% vegetables • 25% whole grains • 25% protein

The idea is inspired by the principles behind Harvard's Healthy Eating Plate.

The interesting part is that I tried to take something that is normally visual and intuitive, where you can literally look at a plate and see roughly half vegetables, one quarter grains, and one quarter protein, and express that concept in code.

There is one intentional difference: GenieChef is primarily focused on savoury lunch and dinner ideas, rather than desserts or fruit-based dishes. That's why I currently don't include fruit in the vegetable portion.

And this is where I'd really like some knowledgeable feedback.

Does this make sense as a practical, simplified implementation of the balanced-plate concept?

In particular, I'd love to hear from people who:

  • work or study in nutrition or dietetics

  • are familiar with the Healthy Eating Plate

  • are interested in healthy eating

  • or simply know this subject better than I do

I'm not trying to reproduce a nutritional guideline with mathematical precision. I'm trying to turn a visual principle into a useful tool for generating meal ideas.

I've been using this feature myself for the past 4–5 weeks as a solo tester, and from my own experience, it seems to work quite well. I dropped 1 kg. during that period of time but not sure whether from my app or my kettlebell. At least it gives me a useful starting point when I don't know what to cook.

But I'm also the person who built the app, so I know I'm not the most objective person to judge whether the implementation actually works as intended. That's why I'm looking for independent feedback here.

If I've misunderstood something, oversimplified it, or if there are principles I should incorporate, I'd really like to know. What would you change?
