I built Duodisly because I kept breaking promises to myself

by•

At work, I rarely miss deadlines. But with personal goals - working out, learning guitar, side projects - everything somehow became negotiable.

I could postpone a task, delete it, or mark it complete when it wasn't.Nobody knew except me.

That made me wonder why I was so much more reliable when someone else was expecting a result.

So I built a small bot for myself and my girlfriend. We created our own commitments, but couldn't mark them complete or cancel them without the other's approval.

Later I added points and self-chosen rewards, so long-term goals had smaller wins along the way.

That experiment eventually became Duodisly, which I launched today.

The idea is simple: commitments you can't quietly abandon.

I'm still unsure about one fundamental question, though:

Does external accountability genuinely help us stay consistent, or can it eventually turn personal goals and hobbies into another job?

I'd especially love to hear from people who've tried accountability partners or similar systems.
