I built an app that whispers nearby places as you walk
Hi everyone,
I’m an indie developer from Japan, and I’ve been building an Android app called WhisMap.
https://manycounts.com/info-whismap/
Instead of opening a map and searching manually, WhisMap automatically searches for places around you and notifies you with voice guidance when you get close to something that matches your interests.
For example:
Cafes
Bakeries
Parks
Wheelchair-accessible places
Tourist spots
Many other place types
The goal is to help you discover places naturally while walking, cycling, or traveling.
Some features:
Automatic nearby search
Voice notifications
Hands-free discovery
Avoids repeating the same searches to reduce API usage
Supports many place categories
I made a short demo video here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LN3SkL2YRg?cc_load_policy=1&cc_lang_pref=en
I'm currently preparing for public release and would love feedback:
Would you use something like this?
What place categories would you want to discover?
Are voice notifications useful, or would you prefer another method?
