I built an app that whispers nearby places as you walk

by

Hi everyone,

I’m an indie developer from Japan, and I’ve been building an Android app called WhisMap.

https://manycounts.com/info-whismap/

Instead of opening a map and searching manually, WhisMap automatically searches for places around you and notifies you with voice guidance when you get close to something that matches your interests.

For example:

  • Cafes

  • Bakeries

  • Parks

  • Wheelchair-accessible places

  • Tourist spots

  • Many other place types

The goal is to help you discover places naturally while walking, cycling, or traveling.

Some features:

  • Automatic nearby search

  • Voice notifications

  • Hands-free discovery

  • Avoids repeating the same searches to reduce API usage

  • Supports many place categories

I made a short demo video here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LN3SkL2YRg?cc_load_policy=1&cc_lang_pref=en

I'm currently preparing for public release and would love feedback:

  • Would you use something like this?

  • What place categories would you want to discover?

  • Are voice notifications useful, or would you prefer another method?
