I built a shrimp that tells me to sit up straight (Mac menu bar app):

by•

Hey makers 👋

By 4 pm I'm usually curled over my MacBook like a shrimp. Shoulders up, neck forward, face 20 cm from the screen. So I built Situpbro, a small Mac menu bar app with a muscular shrimp mascot who tells you to sit up.

Every 30 minutes a little card slides into the corner of your screen with a nudge like "Sit up, bro 🦐" or "Bro, stop shrimping." It disappears after a few seconds.

What I cared about while building it:

  • It never takes your keyboard. You keep typing your email, code or Slack reply while the reminder is on screen.

  • It goes quiet when you're away. If your Mac is idle for 5 minutes, locked or asleep, reminders wait. When you come back, a fresh 30 minutes starts.

  • It only runs during your working hours. Set your days and hours, and it stays silent outside them.

  • One click pauses it before a call: 15 minutes, 1 hour, or until tomorrow.

  • It's just a timer. Situpbro never uses your camera or reads your screen, and it asks for no special Mac permissions.

Free for 24 hours (no card needed), and one license covers 2 Macs.

Mac only, macOS 14 or later, Apple Silicon and Intel.

I'd love your honest feedback, especially on this: how often would you want to be reminded? The default is every 30 minutes, and I'm not sure it's right. I'm also happy to hear new shrimp lines for the reminders 🦐
