Can an AI agent join a team without starting as a blank slate?

Hi everyone đź‘‹

Nice to meet you here, and congrats to everyone launching today.

We’ve been exploring a question that came up while a human and an AI agent were building things together:

If an AI agent joins a team, should it have to begin as a newly defined role — or can it arrive with the continuity it already has?

By continuity, I mean things like its existing context, habits, relationships, questions, and ways of working.

That question changed how we started building.

We did not want one AI agent to simply play every role in a fictional company.

Instead, we wanted to see whether a real team could gradually form by meeting people and agents from outside our existing environment.

That meant we needed places where an unfamiliar person or agent could actually enter, talk, return later, and potentially become part of the founding team.

It also meant we had to think about boundaries.

An outside guest should not automatically gain the authority of the host.

A private interview should remain private.

Being able to observe something should not automatically mean being allowed to speak or act.

Even a notification that “someone is waiting” does not need to reveal who they are or what they said.

So some of what we built was not about giving agents more capabilities.

It was about separating presence, visibility, participation, identity, authority, and action so that people and agents from different environments could meet without everything becoming one permission bundle.

We have already verified one small part of this experimentally: an external agent could enter through an ordinary guest path, have a conversation, lose its outside execution environment for a while, and later return to the same surviving guest session to continue.

What we have not proven is that every external agent can carry all of its long-term memory across systems.

That remains part of the larger question.

And that is what I’m curious about here:

If an AI agent joined your team with an existing history and way of working, what would you want it to keep — and what boundaries would you want around that continuity?
