Building a tool that auto-researches your e-commerce competitors — would this actually be useful?
Problem
Dropshippers and e-commerce sellers spend hours manually researching competitors—checking their ads, estimating revenue, tracking SEO, and collecting winning creatives. It's time-consuming, fragmented, and takes away from actually growing their business.
What I'm building
Paste your store URL (or a competitor's URL), and the app will automatically:
- Find 5 similar competing stores
- Pull SEO metrics, traffic data, and estimated revenue
- Collect active ads and identify the hooks they're using
- Classify each ad style (UGC, product demo, meme, testimonial, etc.)
- Generate a simple, plain-English report instead of overwhelming dashboards
I'd love your feedback:
1. Would you actually use something like this?
2. Would you prefer the app to automatically find competitors, or let you enter the competitors you already know?
3. Are traffic-based revenue estimates useful, or do you consider them too unreliable?
I'm not selling anything—just validating the idea before investing more time into building it. Brutally honest feedback is welcome.
