Launching soon: parental controls for Roku. What would you want to control on your family TV?
Hi all!
I’m Chris, the developer behind ScreenWarden for Roku, and I’m getting ready to launch here on October 26th.
Here’s the short version: Roku’s built-in parental controls cover PINs and content ratings, but there’s no way to set “one hour of YouTube a day” or “the TV turns off at 9 on school nights.” ScreenWarden fills that gap. It runs on your Windows PC and manages every Roku TV and player in your home, with:
Daily time limits on any app or input
A nightly bedtime that turns TVs off (and turns them off again if someone sneaks them back on)
“Allowed apps only” mode
Wake-up routines and scheduled app launches
Password protection, with no account, no cloud, and nothing sent to the internet
It’s already live on the Microsoft Store, so this launch is about getting it in front of more families and hearing what would make it better.
Before launch day, I’d love your input:
If you have a Roku, what’s the one thing you wish you could control on it?
Is a Windows PC that stays on at home a deal-breaker for you, or is that fine?
Anything about the idea that sounds confusing or unconvincing?
If this sounds useful and you’re a parent, a cord-cutter, or just someone who’s lost the “five more minutes” battle, I’d really appreciate your feedback.
Thanks!
Chris
