rhun 0.17.9: your code, your agents, one small editor
My favourite milestone this week: my son made rhun his default editor on Omarchy. Seeing someone choose it for everyday use felt pretty great 🙂
And 0.17.9 is now out!
If you’re new here, rhun is a small, fast code editor written in assembly. Code, a terminal, Git diffs and coding-agent sessions, all in one window.
The recent 0.17.8 update brought Grok Build sessions alongside Claude Code and Codex, file type icons, and separate light/dark themes that switch with your system. On Omarchy, rhun can follow your desktop theme.
0.17.9 makes everyday editing smoother:
Better live updates. Open files follow changes through symlinks, including targets outside your project and folders that disappear and come back.
Search beyond English. Case-insensitive search now handles text like été → Été.
Quick edits stay simple. Open a file directly and get the file, with the explorer and agents panel tucked away.
Read-only files get a choice. Rhun asks before overwriting them.
Free, MIT licensed, no telemetry. Linux, Windows and Apple silicon Macs.
Try it on your next coding-agent task. Where does it get in your way? That’s what I want to fix next.

The “open a file directly and the panels stay tucked away” thing is a nice touch. Sometimes I just want to fix one line and not load a whole workspace....
@emilija_schneidermann3Â And that was my son's idea, actually. Glad you find it useful.
