That’s the realization that eventually became RetroBase.

When I first looked at retro game stores, I assumed the biggest software challenge would be inventory or point of sale.

Instead, I found something completely different.

Most stores already had a POS they liked. The real challenge was everything before the sale: trade-ins waiting to be tested, cleaned, repaired, priced, photographed, and finally placed on the shelf.

That work was often coordinated with spreadsheets, whiteboards, sticky notes, or simply memory.

The more conversations I had, the more I realized this wasn’t really about retro games. It was about making operational work visible.

That’s why I built RetroBase to complement existing POS systems instead of replacing them.
