Launch update: Retic goes live here on November 8
If you followed Retic back in August, you saw "launching August 31" in a couple of my posts.
That didn't happen, so here's what did.
(The new date is Sunday, November 8, 12:01 AM PST.)
By late August the tree worked, but almost all of the daily use came from one person: me. Launching to a crowd before anyone else had lived with it for a week felt backwards.
So I held the launch, and on October 12 opened Retic as a free public beta instead. No waitlist, no invite email. You can open app.retic.io and start a tree as a guest, and Pro features are free while the beta runs.
A lot of the past two months went into the phone, because that's where a habit check-in really happens. Standing on a train, one thumb. There's a bottom tab bar now. The top bar stays put while you scroll, and when you're zoomed deep into a goal, its name sticks to the top so you don't lose your place.
The Android app goes public on Google Play (open testing) on launch day too.
Smaller things I'm glad exist now: search across the whole tree (⌘K on desktop), typing a number straight into a numeric goal instead of tapping + forty times, a notification center inside the app, an undo when you check something off and the row disappears because completed items are hidden, and exporting all your data as JSON or CSV.

For those of you who check off habits on your phone: which tap still feels like one tap too many? That's the part I'm smoothing out next.
