Most fundraising tools stop at the donation. What should happen next?

by

We started Cotara by trying to make fundraising easier for nonprofits. But the more we worked on the problem, the more we noticed something interesting. Most fundraising software is very good at telling an organization:

  • who donated

  • how much they gave

  • when they gave

But those aren't necessarily the most important questions.

What nonprofits really want to understand is:

  • What brought this person here?

  • Who or what influenced them?

  • Are they becoming more engaged or starting to disappear?

  • Which campaign actually created relationships, not just clicks?

  • Who should my team pay attention to this week?

  • What should we do next?

That led us to start thinking about fundraising less as a series of transactions and more as a series of relationships.

I'm curious how others see this.

If you were running a nonprofit, what is the ONE thing you would want your fundraising software to tell you that a normal donation report doesn't?

We're building Cotara around this question, and I'd genuinely like to hear what we're missing.
