Recall release notes - July 30, 2026 - A big upgrade to search

Excited to share that we have improved our Search flow in Recall! Search has moved out of the small popup and into your library, so results now fill the full page. That means a lot more room to see what you've found, and everything you'd normally do with your cards still works on the results. FYI: The improvement lands on desktop first, with a mobile overhaul to follow shortly.

What’s New

• Search inside your content, not just titles. Recall now looks through your reader content, notes and quizzes, not just card titles. Each result shows a small counter for where the matches are (reader, notebook, quiz). You can hover over it to preview the matching text and click to jump straight to it.

• Text search or AI search. Switch between the two right in the search bar. Text search finds exact words and phrases, best for names, keywords and specific terminology. AI search understands meaning rather than keywords, best for fuzzy or multi-lingual queries when you can't remember the exact wording.

• Results are real cards. Because results appear in your library, you can stay in grid, list or table view, select multiple results (including shift-select), and run bulk actions like tagging or deleting on exactly what you searched for.

• Combine search with filters. Narrow results further by tag, source, date or shared status. Filter options now only show what's actually in your current results, along with matching counts, so you're never offered a tag or source that returns nothing.

• Related tags. When your search matches tag names, they appear above the results. Click one to turn your search into a tag filter.

• Search from anywhere. Press “Cmd + /” on Mac, or “Ctrl + /” on Windows from any screen, including while reading a card, and you'll land in your library with the search bar focused and ready.

• Search history. Recent searches appear when you focus the search bar, and restoring one brings back your search mode as well as the query.

• Better empty state. When nothing matches, Recall tells you what you searched for and offers one-click ways out, such as clear the search and filters, or retry the same query with AI search.

  Improvements

  • Better failure messaging on PDF uploads. Invalid, corrupted, password-protected and oversized PDFs now fail with a clear message instead of a generic one.

  • Longer AI persona instructions. You can now write up to 10,000 characters of custom persona instructions.

  Fixes

  • Sync is more resilient: expired sessions refresh automatically instead of interrupting syncing.

  • Better layout on iPad. Headers, drawers and controls no longer sit under the status bar or notch in desktop-style layouts on iPad Pro.

  • Copying code from chat. Code copied out of chat now keeps its line breaks and array indexes (like arr[0]) intact.

  • Scrollable language selector on extension settings. You can now scroll the improved list of summary and translation languages on the settings page.
