I built a macOS app where a duck-piloted plane flies across your screen before your meetings 🦆
Hey PH!
Quakpit launches tomorrow and I wanted to share the story behind it.
A few days ago I challenged myself to build my first macOS app. I wanted to see if I could actually ship something, not just design it.
The idea: instead of a boring notification popup, a tiny plane flown by a duck crosses your entire screen with a banner saying "Your meeting is in 5 minutes." Impossible to miss. Impossible to hate.
I posted one tweet about it with zero expectations. It went viral overnight.
Hundreds of people started asking for more, more animals, custom banners, sounds, calendar integrations. So I decided to build it properly.
Here's what Quakpit is today:
🗓 Connects to your calendar
✈️ Sends a plane flying across your screen before meetings
🦆 Choose your pilot: duck, dinosaur, pigeon, capybara, or dog
🆓 Fully free and open source version
⭐ $4.99 one-time premium for custom banners, sounds & more
My question for the PH community: what's the most creative meeting reminder you've ever seen or used? I'm convinced boring notifications are one of the most underrated problems in productivity software 👇
