What gets lost when AI rewrites your writing?

by

Hey everyone — I’m working on ProofWrite AI, and I’ve been thinking about something that doesn’t get discussed enough.

AI rewriting tools can make a paragraph cleaner, but sometimes they also remove the parts that made it sound personal in the first place.

A casual sentence becomes formal. A specific opinion becomes generic. The writing is technically better, but it no longer feels like something you would actually say.

When you use a rewriting tool, what matters most to you?

• Keeping your original tone

• Preserving facts and citations

• Making the text clearer without changing its meaning

• Avoiding generic or overly polished wording

• Being able to compare the original and revised versions

For me, the hardest part isn’t making writing sound better. It’s improving it without making every person sound the same.

I’d love to hear what usually makes you reject an AI-generated rewrite.
