by
Does national politics make you feel defeated? Project Local Gov is the first community-powered wiki for anyone to share who their local officials are, what they are doing, and how to contact them. Our goal is to demystify local gov with access to information.

Hi all! When the protests around George Floyd's tragic death started, I didn't want to protest, but I did want to do something. I helped found this project because I didn't know where to turn to find out who to vote for in local elections, especially with how these roles relate to policing. What does a County Assessor even do? By becoming a contributor, I am now up to speed on what's happening locally and have even started reaching out to my city council for the first time on issues I care about! In order to grow our community, please create an account and you can participate in TWO different ways. 1. Contributor. Contributors research their cities and county elected positions and post this information on the wiki, with articles linked to sources and city pages. 2. Moderator. Moderators review content on the city pages and ensure that the content is up to date, reviewed for accuracy, and not biased or violating community rules. Change starts at home, we look forward with growing this community with YOU!

Many of you may have heard the phrase "change starts local": to change national policy, we must first normalize it at a local level. This one insight changed the way I looked at our civic institutions and provided us with inspiration for this project. Come join us and learn about our local politicians and how they affect our day-to-day life!

When I started taking public transportation and looked for alternative clean mobility options for commuting in LA, I learned that it's actually local government that creates the policies that impacts our day to day life. Change starts locally: at home and within our own communities. We hope that through this Wiki we can collectively create accessibility to information, and transparency around local government to make informed decisions when voting and hold elected officials accountable! I am so excited to finally share this project and I hope you will join us! We are looking for Contributors and Moderators to help build our community-powered Wiki.
