As the creator of this product, I'd like to share my experience that kick started the whole thing: when the new LLM foundation models were out, given my background in AI, I quickly picked it up and started building some projects around it. However, after my project was out in the wild, pricing quickly became an issue. Charging for a fixed subscription fee could cost me a lot if a few power users pushed my system. Increasing the price for everyone would push it out of accessibility range for a lot of customers. Charging per token and explaining how it was calculated was just not practical. So I decided to create a simple to use but complex behind the scenes pricing system that makes the whole thing simpler for us as makers, but also for reducing the prices for customers and getting rid of maze like pricing pages.
