Pitara - Windows Photo Search — find any photo instantly in English

by
Pitara is a Windows photo search tool that finds any photo in your library in under half a second using plain English. No cloud upload, no account, no GPU, no subscription. Everything runs on your machine. Your photos already contain everything needed to find them. GPS location, date, camera model, altitude. Pitara reads that metadata, builds a local index using Apache Lucene, and makes your entire Windows photo library instantly searchable. Type what you remember. Results under half a second.

Hey Product Hunt! I'm Naren, the maker of Pitara. I built this because my photo collection is spread across three external drives and I could never find anything. Cloud tools were a non-starter for me. I didn't want to upload decades of personal photos to Google or Amazon. And nothing I found could handle the scale without choking. So I spent two years building a search tool that works the other way around. Pitara reads the GPS, date, and camera data already embedded in your photos, builds a local index using Apache Lucene, and makes everything searchable in plain English. The index lives on your machine. Your photos never leave. Some queries that work out of the box: "summer 2019 in paris", "father's day 2019", "above 8000 feet with canon", "sunday evenings from 10 years". Results come back in under half a second across terabytes of photos. Happy to answer any questions about how it works, the Lucene schema, offline drive detection, on-device face clustering, anything. Ask away.
