Hey everyone 👋. I’m Chris, the founder, designer, and developer of .

This all started around eight months ago while I was sitting in the kitchen, having just opened my investment spreadsheet. Yes, that file. The one that goes untouched for months, rapidly becomes outdated, and only gets opened when we need something from it. That was when I had a spark.

What was the spark?

I like to think of myself as a creative and solutions-driven guy, so I thought that there had to be a better way than this boring, old-school spreadsheet malarkey.

I minimised the file and jumped straight onto Google, ChatGPT, and a few others. I started searching for an array of different terms. Terms that I thought would quickly extinguish the spark and give me exactly what I wanted.

Investment tracking. Portfolio tracking. Investment portfolio progression tool. Portfolio daily snapshots…

…the list went on.

But nothing stood out to me as a tool that focused on the progression of my portfolio over time, allowed me to research companies and fund fundamentals in a way that was simple yet powerful, and shone a spotlight on why my portfolio had behaved the way it did.

I also wanted to tap into Artificial Intelligence (AI) for portfolio and market insights, due diligence, and daily updates delivered to my inbox. (Yes, I spend most of my day with my email open.)

The tools I did discover either had too much going on, presented endless raw figures with very little data visualisation, or simply didn’t look great. Because good design matters, right?

That was when my gut told me to put pen to paper and build something. Something to scratch the itch and fill the gap — even if it was only ever for my own use.

Filling the gap

  1. To fill the gap (or scratch my itch), I knew there needed to be four core focus areas:

  2. Show a portfolio’s progression over time, highlighting where it started and what it has become.

  3. Tell the story of the global economy in a quick, clear, and easy-to-digest format.

  4. Allow people to ask questions about their portfolio or individual holdings through fine-tuned AI.

  5. Be visually engaging, making insights and important details easy to discover.

These four pillars became the foundation of what I envisioned Pipta to be.

I wanted the ability to story tell, seeing my investment portfolio in an educational way, understanding what happened, why it happened, and seeing everything presented beautifully. I wanted to ask questions like:

“Show me my portfolio in March 2025. What was it worth? What did I own? What dividends were expected? What news was affecting it? What economic events were coming up?”

I wanted to understand exactly how my portfolio looked and reacted on any given day, while also seeing what was happening in the wider world at that moment.

I didn’t think that was too much to ask — especially with all the technology we have around us today.

I’m a passionate investor, I work 13-hour days, and I have a family, so I don’t always have hours to spend reading or doing due diligence. I need a tool that kicks me up the ass on what I need to know when I discover an opportunity. If something catches my eye, then I can dig deeper without wasting time.
