How do you currently find pet-friendly hotels when traveling?

I've been building a pet-friendly hotel search site (launching on PH next Tuesday, Oct 6 ๐Ÿ‘€) and ran into a problem I'm curious how others handle:

Most booking sites just show a generic "pet friendly" badge โ€” no details on fees, weight/breed limits, or whether it's actually enforced at check-in. So I'd always end up cross-checking 3-4 tabs (booking site, hotel's own policy page, random blog reviews) before trusting a listing.

For those of you who travel with a dog or cat โ€” how do you currently verify a hotel is actually pet-friendly before booking? Do you call ahead, trust the OTA tag, check reviews, or something else?

Would love to hear what's worked (or hasn't) for you โ€” it's directly shaping what I prioritize before launch.

(Side note: for Korea listings we also pull in blog review summaries, but I haven't found a good equivalent source for US hotels yet โ€” if anyone knows a solid API/source for aggregating third-party reviews beyond the OTA's own, I'm all ears.)
