A brand score can’t tell you which products AI recommends

by

Most AI visibility tools answer one question:

“Does my brand appear?”

But shoppers don’t ask AI for the best brand. They describe a problem “What’s the best laptop for photo editing?” and get back a shelf of specific products.

That creates a different set of questions:

  • Which of my products are actually recommended?

  • Which competing products appear instead?

  • What reasons and sources shaped the answer?

  • Can I inspect the raw answer behind the score?

We built Optifeed Radar because a single brand-level visibility score couldn’t answer these questions. It runs unbranded buyer questions across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity, then measures visibility for each named product.

I’m curious how other makers and ecommerce teams think about this:

Would you rather track brand visibility, product-level visibility, or both? And what result would actually change what you do next?
