Hey everyone A few months ago I tried to find a quick online notepad to jot down two API keys while switching between machines. The first result took four seconds to load and asked me to consent to 412 advertising partners. The second had ads inside the textarea. The third quietly POSTed every keystroke to a server I'd never heard of. I just wanted Notepad. The thing that ships with Windows. So I built one. OnlineNotepad.app is what I think an online notepad should be in 2026: → Loads instantly. Cursor is in the textarea before you can blink. → Multiple tabs, dark mode, markdown preview, line numbers, word count, find & replace. → Lock any note with real AES-256 encryption — the password is never stored anywhere. → Your notes are saved to your browser's localStorage — never uploaded to a server. → No signup, no account, no ads, no analytics, no third-party scripts. → Works fully offline as a PWA, with JSON backup & restore. The part I'm most proud of: I architected it so I literally can't see your notes, even if I wanted to. Share links encode the note in the URL fragment (the part after #) which browsers never transmit to servers. You can verify all of this in DevTools in about thirty seconds — open the Network tab, type a paragraph, and watch zero requests go out. It's free forever. No premium tier, no upsell, no "pro plan coming soon." It's just a notepad. Three things I'd genuinely love feedback on: Is there a feature from desktop Notepad you miss that I haven't added yet? The markdown preview is basic on purpose — should it stay that way or get more powerful? Anything that feels slow, broken, or weird on your device, please tell me. I'll fix it today. Thanks for taking a look 🙏 — Fez Aly
