How to start a task when your brain won't start

by•

Starting is often the hardest part, especially with ADHD. The task isn't too hard; the first step is too vague. What helps:

1. Get everything out of your head into one list first, so you stop holding it in memory.

2. Pick at most three things for today.

3. For the first one, write a first step so small it feels silly: "open the document", "find the envelope".

4. Name what's actually in the way: too big, unclear, boring, low energy. Each needs a different fix.

5. Commit to two minutes only. Stopping after two is allowed; most of the time you keep going.

Now is built around this: type or dictate everything into one Brain Dump and Now splits it into tasks, keeps your daily plan to three, shows one concrete first step with a big start button, and if you're stuck, gives you one practical next move. Then a calm two-minute timer starts. The task starter, Stuck button, Brain Dump and focus timers are free, no account. It's not medical treatment.

What's the task you've been putting off longest?
