🎬 Why I Built This
Finding a movie to watch shouldn’t feel like a part-time job, but somehow it always does. You Google “best movies to watch,” and it’s the same recycled lists of classics you’ve already seen. Dive into Reddit? Sure, if you’ve got an hour to waste and nothing to show for it. And don’t even get me started on streaming service algorithms. Half the time, they throw the most random stuff at you. (Though, to be fair, they did recommend Stranger Things, so, you know, win some, lose some.)
I got so fed up with this endless loop that I decided to build something better—an app that actually listens when you say what you’re in the mood for. Whether you’re after a specific vibe, a random plot twist, or just something to feel something, it’s here to cut through the noise.
✨ What It Does
This is a minimal app, that’s designed to make finding movies a little less painful.
- Natural language input: Type what you’re in the mood for—"A heartwarming underdog sports movie" or "something to make me cry"—and it’ll do its best to deliver.
- Focused on feelings: Want to laugh? Feel nostalgic? Have your brain melted? You name it, it’ll try to match your vibe.
- Fresh suggestions: You can mark movies as "watched," so they don’t clutter your future searches. No more Groundhog Day (unless you want to watch Groundhog Day).
🤔 What You Should Know
Here’s the deal: the app is still a bit rough around the edges. The database currently has about 600 movies—most of them older, so you might not always get super recent recommendations. But I’m constantly adding new ones, so it’ll get better with time! Think of it as a work-in-progress, much like all of us.
Also, I’m a solo developer, and this is very much a one-person show. So if you run into bugs, weird recommendations, or just something that doesn’t make sense—first off, my bad. Second, I’d love to hear your feedback so I can fix it.
🎥 Why It’s Different
This isn’t trying to be the next IMDb or some glossy streaming service. It’s a simple tool, built for people who don’t want to spend more time searching for a movie than watching one. It’s not perfect, but it’s honest, functional, and designed to make your life a little easier.
So, if you’re tired of endless scrolling and want to try something different, check it out. Worst case? You close the tab. Best case? You find a hidden gem.
