Getting the headline first isn’t enough. What should traders see next?

I ve worked around sell-side and buy-side trading desks since 2006, and one thing about financial news has always bothered me:

being fast is necessary, but being fast is not enough.

When breaking market news hits, what's the first thing you check before deciding it matters ?

I've been thinking about this a lot while building MoveSurge.

Getting the headline quickly is obviously useful, but I don't think the headline alone answers the real question.

Usually I want to know:

  • did the market actually react?

  • which instrument reacted first?

  • was the move meaningful or just noise?

  • which other companies/assets could be affected next?

  • is this a new catalyst or something the market already knew?
