MovePlay - Turn screen time into action time!

With MovePlay, kids don’t just sit and swipe — they jump, run, and move to play games. Using the device’s camera, the app recognizes and responds to their movements, encouraging active play instead of passive screen time.

👋 Hello! I’m Enrique and I’m really excited to share MovePlay, an app I built to turn screen time into action time.

Why did I build this?

I originally built MovePlay for my own daughters, because I wanted screen time to be healthier, more active, and more fun. With MovePlay, kids don’t just sit and swipe — they jump, run, and move to play games.

How does it work?

MovePlay uses the device’s camera to recognize body movements and hand gestures. Kids become the controllers: they jump to make a character jump, move left/right to dodge obstacles, and use simple hand signals to start or stop games. Everything is processed on-device only — no video or images are ever transmitted.

I even trained a custom model for hand gestures (like “stop ✋” or “thumbs up 👍”), so kids can control games without ever touching the screen.

What’s unique?

• No controllers, swipes, or buttons — just movement.

• 100% on-device video analysis, so privacy is built-in.

• Games designed to get kids active, not passive.

What I’m most proud of

So far, the best part has been seeing kids actually having fun while jumping and moving — instead of sitting on the couch just tapping or watching videos. On the builder side, creating MovePlay has been a lot of fun too. From real-time movement tracking to training a custom hand gesture model, there have been plenty of technical challenges, but solving them has been incredibly rewarding.

Looking forward to your feedback! Let’s move!!

This is such a fun and clever idea! no extra hardware, just movement.
Can already imagine kids having a blast with this.
