Mirror - Detect hidden apps on MacOS

Mirror detects background macOS apps that deliberately hide from Activity Monitor. It exposes stealth tools like Interview Coder, Cluely, Hiding AI, and similar apps designed to stay invisible giving you full visibility and control over what’s really running on your Mac.

Hey Product Hunt 👋 I’m Abdulbasit, the maker of Mirror. Mirror was built after noticing a growing class of macOS apps that deliberately hide from Activity Monitor — often without users fully realizing what’s running in the background. Some tools are useful, others questionable, but invisibility removes user choice. Mirror gives that choice back. It surfaces hidden background apps, including stealth tools that intentionally avoid detection, so you can clearly see what’s actually running on your Mac. It’s: * 🕵️‍♂️ Focused on transparency, not fear * 🔒 Privacy-respecting and fully local * 🧩 Open source, so you can verify how it works I’d love feedback from builders, security folks, and macOS power users: * What hidden apps surprised you the most? * What detection signals should we add next? Thanks for checking it out — happy to answer any questions!

Congratulations on the launch! Mirror looks great. However, does it find malware and bloated pre-installed apps?

If any background activities involving the theft of user privacy are detected, can users be alerted immediately and the suspicious APP be asked to be closed?

Currently working on it. It will be launching in the coming weeks.
Nice feature would be working on this. Mirror doesn't currently support this feature. Thanks for the feedback

Great! Why didn't you publish it to the store?

Hey , thanks for the suggestion i am currently working towards it.

This is a great app. I imagine a lot of people will love to have it. How would we know when you have the app published in the store?

I would pin it to the comment section

I installed an application long time ago, after the successful installation I won't able to see the application anywhere. Is this tool able to find and uninstall such apps?

if the app is still on your Mac it would find it and give you the option to kill the app

wow there're hidden apps running on mac? Never saw it. Interesting.

There are some software you can download that, despite being closed, remain active in the background. This is how hackers get access to sensitive information.

Great idea. I’m curious about how this is implemented — does it involve inspecting system processes? And what happens after that?

This software is really appealing to me. My computer is company-issued and has some monitoring software installed, so I’m not very comfortable using this product to disable it—but I still want to say, it’s genuinely a great piece of software.

Thank you very much, if you don’t mind me asking. Why aren't you comfortable using it to disable the software?
