Why I built Methodwise — and what I learned talking to parents about homework

by

I built Methodwise after watching my daughter come home with math homework that looked nothing like the math I learned. I knew the answer. I just didn't know the method — and every time I tried to help, I made things worse.

That moment is happening in millions of households every night. Teaching methods have changed significantly over the past decade, and most parents are trying to help with a completely different framework in their heads. When home and school use different approaches, kids don't just get the wrong answer — they start to doubt themselves.

I couldn't find anything built for that problem. AI tools solve homework for kids. Tutors work with kids directly. Nothing was coaching the parent through the method the teacher was actually using.

So I built Methodwise. You describe the homework, and it explains exactly what your child's teacher is teaching and why — then walks you through the language and questions to use at the kitchen table tonight.

A few things I've learned talking to parents since launch:

  • The subject doesn't matter as much as the method gap. Parents who are great at math still struggle when the method is unfamiliar.

  • The emotional stakes are high. Parents don't just feel confused — they feel like they're failing their kid.

  • When it clicks, it really clicks. One parent shared it with her daughter's teacher, who passed it along to the rest of the school.

I'd love to hear from this community — what has your experience been helping kids with homework? Where does it break down?
