Closed-source software asks us to trust what we cannot inspect. We want to build differently.

Three months ago, my co-founder and I quit our jobs to build Meridian full-time. It is an open-source, local-first AI work journal that runs on your device, captures your development activity, and drafts clear worklogs and updates for tools like Jira. Nothing leaves your device until you approve it.

Meridian is MIT-licensed and free for individual developers.

I like the privacy model. the bigger question for me is whether the generated worklogs are actually good enough that i would trust them without spending another 20 minutes editing everything.

 Thank you! More than 200 beta users have tried Meridian over the past month, and the feedback on its worklog updates has been very positive. They read naturally rather than feeling AI-generated, and managers have found them reliable too.

I have tried keeping worklogs manually and always end up writing them at the end of the week from memory. having the raw activity already there would save a lot of guesswork.

 That’s exactly the problem we kept running into. Meridian captures the activity as it happens, so the worklog is ready to review instead of being reconstructed from memory at the end of the week. Hoping meridian makes a difference to you!

MIT licensing is a nice touch but i am curious how you handle sensitive repository names, commit messages, and file paths. are those all configurable?

 Yes, they are configurable. Meridian processes activity locally, and nothing leaves your device until you approve it. You remain in control of which repository names, commit messages, and file paths are included in generated updates.

Open source is the foundation, not a marketing label. Developers should be able to inspect how their activity is captured, control what appears in an update, and approve everything before it is shared. Meridian is our attempt to make that standard.
