I’ve always been too lazy to study (and still am).
Hi Product Hunt community! How’s everyone doing?
I wanted to share the story behind why I ended up building yet another flashcard app:
I created this app to address a personal pain point I faced while learning German.
As I approached the B1 level, I realized I was understanding more speech and text and could construct grammatically intelligible (though not necessarily correct) sentences. However, I kept hitting a wall whenever I needed a basic word that I suddenly couldn't recall.
In short, I had a limited vocabulary so nothing new or unusual there.
I’d dealt with this before, so I started making my own vocabulary lists: initially in Quizlet. But once my set grew beyond a hundred words, I got tired of wading through the ones I’d already mastered.
I tried a few other apps; I even gave Anki a shot, but the UI was terrible or okay not so good for me personally.
So, I decided to build my own: nothing groundbreaking, perhaps, but a solid tool.
I added several ways to create decks, I use Google Sheets syncing and often generate material using AI. Also included an option to generate exercises based on the decks. These exercises have only been around for a month, so it’s hard to gauge their full effectiveness yet, but I’ve definitely managed to review and retain a few new terms using them!
An unexpected benefit wasn't just the language topics I could practice or things only tangentially related to the language, like the driving test questions (which I actually prepared for quite well)
