About Matterofstocks and Methodology

by•

Most stock research asks you to trust it. MatterOfStocks publishes its track record instead. The platform scores US stocks every night from SEC filings and market data, using published rules rather than opinions. Then it does the part almost nobody does: it grades every one of those calls against what the market actually did next, keeps the result permanently, and shows you the misses alongside the hits.

Three commitments, enforced in code rather than in copy

  • Computed, not narrated. AI writes the explanations.

  • The figures come from published rules applied to primary sources, and if the AI's overall view contradicts the computed result, it is replaced with rules-written text before you see it.

  • Every figure comes from published rules applied to primary sources, and AI text that contradicts the underlying math is automatically replaced before you see it. The narration is there to explain the arithmetic, never to produce it.

Backtested, failures included. The whole methodology was replayed across fourteen years of history, and the negative results are published. Signals that did not work are listed next to the ones that did. A research product that only shows its wins is a marketing product. Graded against reality. Every call is timestamped and append-only. History is never edited after the fact.

Buy-call performance is measured over the five trading days that follow each signal, against real historical prices, and market-adjusted so a call is not credited for a rising tide.

What you get Company scoring built from SEC filings, covering fundamentals, forensic accounting checks, and valuation. Congressional trading disclosures, more than 46,000 trades from over 5,300 filings so far, so you can see which stocks lawmakers have been buying and when they disclosed it. Corporate insider activity from actual filings, filtered to open-market buys and sells, because grants and tax withholding are not decisions. Institutional ownership from actual filings. Written research reports that walk through the numbers in plain language, aimed at someone who wants to understand a company rather than be told what to do about it.

Coverage, and its honest limits

About 3,900 stocks, covering 99.8% of US market value. There is a floor at roughly $300M market cap, and it is deliberate.

Below that, filings thin out and data quality drops, and the platform does not score what it cannot stand behind. Coverage gaps are stated on the methodology page rather than papered over. There are no price targets pulled from thin air, no signals without a published rule behind them, and no claim that a disclosure predicted a move. When the data cannot support a statement, the statement is not made.
