Most task apps store your list and make you sort it. Margin decides for you. Dump everything in, plain text or voice. Margin sizes each task, ranks your day, and hands you the order: what to do first, what fits, what can wait. You open it and start. What is different: a deterministic engine does the ranking, not a black box, so every reorder comes with one plain sentence explaining why. Nothing you set is quietly overridden. It notices what keeps slipping instead of letting it rot at the bottom.

For years I ran my entire life out of a paper notebook. Every morning I rewrote the list. Every afternoon I rewrote it again, because the day had moved. One day I timed it out of curiosity: 127 minutes in a single day spent deciding what to do next, and not one of those minutes spent actually doing any of it. I tried the apps. Every one of them wanted more from me than the notebook did. Estimate this. Tag that. Pick a priority from four options that all mean "soon." The work before the work just moved to a screen and got a nicer font. So I built Margin.
