Why most students reread notes instead of testing themselves (and what tools could fix this?)

While building Lunora, an AI study tool that generates quizzes from notes and lectures, I noticed something interesting.

Most students spend hours rereading notes, highlighting PDFs, or organizing study systems. But very few actually test themselves with questions — even though research shows retrieval practice is one of the most effective learning methods.

The problem seems to be friction. Creating practice questions manually takes time, and most tools only provide a limited number of questions.

That’s partly why I started building Lunora — a tool that turns notes, PDFs, or lectures into interactive quizzes so students can actively test their understanding instead of passively rereading material.

I’m curious about the community’s experience here:

• Do you use practice questions when studying?
• What tools do you use right now (Quizlet, Anki, etc.)?
• What would the ideal “AI study partner” look like?
