I chose a One-Time License over Subscriptions for my new desktop app
by•
Hey everyone!
Subscription fatigue is real. It feels like every small utility app nowadays wants $5.99/month forever.
When I started building lumabar (a lightweight, Tauri-based Windows dock), I made a strict rule: No subscriptions. It’s a desktop utility that sits on your screen, not a cloud AI service with recurring server costs.
We integrated Dodo Payments to handle a simple, one-time lifetime license. You buy it once, you own it forever.
I’m curious about the PH community's thoughts:
Do you think more indie hackers should bring back the one-time purchase model for desktop/local apps?
What makes you instantly close a pricing page?
Let's discuss!
