Turning five Chinese crafts into a two-player board game
Hi Product Hunt 👋
I'm launching 玲珑 Linglong on September 18th: a two-player duel about Chinese craft, playable free in the browser, no install and no account.
You and your rival share one small board of materials. Take three in a line, build a workshop, and answer the commissions that arrive at the table. Each commission is judged on a fixed action, and the work holding the most different techniques wins the patron. Four Imperial patrons, or 75 prestige, ends the night.
The five crafts each play differently: jade carving, silver work, Jingdezhen porcelain industrialization, lacquer, and Yixing clay, where one workshop can take on an apprentice.
Two things I'm unsure about, and would genuinely like opinions on:
1. I ask new players to choose guided or immersive play before their first game. Guided explains whose turn it is and what just happened; immersive is only the table. Is choosing up front helpful, or is it one decision too many?
2. There's a five-minute scripted lesson that teaches by playing a real game. Would you take it, or do you always skip tutorials and learn by losing?
Play it now if you like: https://linglong.backstamp.games
Happy to answer anything about the rules, the art, or the real world crafts and their story!
