It started with a hot dog stand. I wanted to sell hot dogs at a local barter faire in Washington State, so I ordered a touchscreen POS system off Amazon. When it arrived, the software was so bad I couldn't believe anyone was actually selling it. That's when it hit me — I could build something better. So I did. I started building Kova POS(coming soon), a full point-of-sale system from scratch. Halfway through I realized that card processing wasn't just a feature — but a really big part of the product i wanted to make. Merchants needed a way to accept payments without buying expensive hardware or paying Square's monthly fees. But most importantly your data is your own, unlike square, toast or clover. I wanted to make sure that grandma's recipe stays a secret. That's how KovaPay was born. I built it as the payment engine for Kova POS, then realized it could stand completely on its own. Any Android phone, any merchant, zero hardware. Just tap and pay.
