Master Kanbanq: Tips & Tricks to boost your productivity

Ready to supercharge your productivity? Let's dive into the core concepts that make Kanbanq different from other project management tools.

These simple concepts will transform how you organize and complete your work.

------

Main board vs backlog

The Main Board is your focus zone – like Trello, but cleaner. Only put tasks here that you want to complete in your current sprint (usually 1-2 weeks).

The Backlog is your idea parking lot. Store all your future tasks, organized by categories, without cluttering your main workspace.

Pro tip: Drag tasks from backlog categories directly to main board columns when you're ready to work on them.

------

Understanding sprints

A sprint is simply a time period where you focus on specific tasks. Most people use 1-2 weeks, but you choose what works for you.

At the end of each sprint, completed tasks automatically move to your archive, and you get a detailed report of your progress.

You can start or end a sprint using the shortcut in the top menu bar, or by pressing the sprint button on the bottom left of your screen

Pro tip: Start with 1-week sprints. It's easier to estimate what you can complete in a shorter timeframe.

------

Category organization

Categories help you organize your backlog into logical groups. Think "Marketing," "Development," "Personal," or whatever makes sense for your work.

Each task has a category tag, making it easy to review related work and plan future sprints.

You can change a card's category by selecting a new category from the dropdown at the bottom of the card. You can also drag cards between backlog columns – they'll automatically inherit the category of where they're placed.

Pro tip: Keep categories broad. Too many specific categories become harder to manage than helpful.

------

Smart task management

Every task has two key pieces of metadata: its category (what type of work) and its status (what stage it's in).

Tasks support content blocks with checklists, automatic link detection, and rich formatting to capture everything you need. If you have used Notion before, you should feel right at home.

Pro tip: Use checklists for multi-step tasks. It's satisfying to check things off, and you won't forget important details.
