I built my own app after reading 1,426 reviews of the app I was competing with.

I am three months into clear aligner treatment and building a tracker for it while I use it (I am my own QA!). I pulled every public App Store review of my main competitor app in the category. 1,426 of them, 55 storefronts, off Apple's per-storefront feeds.

Rating by year: 4.04, 3.79, 3.82, then 3.08 in 2025 and 2.88 so far this year. My main competitor is tanking their app for perceived short term gains!

2025 alone drew 472 negative reviews, roughly 4x a normal year for it. Then in August it capped progress photos at 10 on the free tier and rolled two things people had bought outright as $1.99 one-time unlocks, Watch support and ad removal, into a subscription.

People about a year in, with photo history they suddenly cannot add to. I am on aligner 12, and I would rather not end up being the person on the other side of that. So I created my own aligner tracker app, 22 Hours
