Hi everyone. I'm Paisley, a software developer, and I'm new here.

I spend most of my time in developer tools and automation — the small, unglamorous stuff that removes a repeated task from your day and quietly gives you back an hour. I also care a lot about open source, and about what AI-assisted development is actually changing versus what people claim it's changing.

I joined because I wanted somewhere to see what other people are shipping, and to steal inspiration from builders who are solving problems I haven't even noticed yet.

Which brings me to the thing I can't stop thinking about. So much of the tooling I use every day was built by one person scratching their own itch, and it outperforms products with entire teams behind them. Which makes me wonder what the difference really is. Is it focus, is it proximity to the problem, or is it just that small tools are allowed to be opinionated while big ones have to please everyone?

I'd love to hear what tools you use that were clearly built by one person for themselves, and what makes them better than the polished alternatives.

Glad to be here.
