"Without waiting for uploads". honestly, this is one of those things you don't realize is a pain until you experience the alternative. Server-based tools make you wait for uploads, wait for processing, wait for download. Local tools are just: drop, click, done.
And you're right. keeping files local while staying snappy is the sweet spot. Modern browsers (with WebAssembly and efficient JavaScript) are surprisingly powerful now. What used to require desktop software can run in a browser tab.

This is such a great observation. and honestly, it made me smile. With server-based tools, progress bars exist because you're waiting on something (uploading, server processing). With local tools, things just... happen.

How does it actually handle really large video files or long PDFs if everything runs in the browser, does it ever hit memory limits?

For PDFs: For large PDFs with hundreds of pages, performance depends on your device's RAM. Modern browsers with 8GB+ RAM handle 500+ page PDFs smoothly because we're working with structural data (page dictionaries and content streams), not rasterizing anything.
For video files: I'd recommend our dedicated video tools (compressors, converters) which use FFmpeg WebAssembly. They handle files up to 2GB locally. limited mainly by your device's memory.
Here's the honest truth about memory limits:
- Your browser has a memory limit (typically 2-4GB per tab depending on the browser)
- If your PDF is massive (like 1,000+ pages with high-res images), you might hit that limit
- I've tested up to 800 pages on a standard laptop with 16GB RAM. worked fine
- For extremely large files like 800+ pages, I recommend splitting first, then reordering
